Field Trip

A fit of allergies and a busy weekend made for Monday Dred. So, since my calendar was pretty clear anyway, I opted to take a vacation day to hang out with my peeps. We checked the website first (this time!) and decided that it was a beautiful day to go to the Durham Museum of Life and Science. The weather ROCKED and so did our trip! Although we initially balked at the price of admission, we soon agreed that it was worth it. There's the weather center, with a mini-tornado that you can watch form, and then reach out a touch. There's a basin full of clouds that you can play in, and a bunch of other cool climate/weather-related stuff. Then there's SPACE.. James got to climb into a command module, dock the shuttle with an orbiting satellite, and see lots of EARTHS! Little Science is an area specifically geared towards the little ones, and we spent quite some time there. In the pics, it's the area where it looks like James is in a treehouse. But WAIT.. that's not all! In addition to the inside stuff, there's a friggin' complex on the outside. There's a very cool playground, a farmyard, a munchie pavillion (just vending machines right now.. soon to be an actual snackbar, I think), and the Butterfly Pavillion. There's a train around there somewhere, too, but we just didn't have time and didn't find it. I cannot tell you how tired we were when we left here, and much like Biltmore, you'd really need a FULL day to see and appreciate the whole museum. Fortunately, it's closer and cheaper than Biltmore, and you can climb on stuff here. Check out the new album in the photo collection, and take a trip yourself sometime soon!
