*so there was a cover story for their little outing. They were supposedly getting ice cream, and IF Mommy asked, that was the story. James set 1 foot in the door and immediately started digging a hole by announcing, "WE GOT ICE CREAM. DADDY GOT STRAWBERRY AND I GOT CHOCOLATE". He's a sly one, that boy.

An eye for detail
Sterling and James went out this afternoon to "run some errands", and by that I mean, "not-so-discreetly shop for Mommy's Christmas gift". So wherever it was that they went*, there was apparently a Santa walking out to his car at the same time they were. Fully-decked-out Santa, and Sterling says, "hey, James, is that SANTA?", and James, who glanced at the guy for a full 2 seconds, replies coolly, "naw, that's just some guy, the REAL Santa wears gloves". In his 2-second glance, he'd taken stock of the dude's entire wardrobe and noted the crucial missing gloves! They were parked right next to him, so they said hi as they got to the truck, and santa (he gets no capitalization.. he's just some guy) says, "hey dude, gimme five!", so James does, and then tells Sterling, "he didn't know my name!". How can you still believe in Santa yet be so grown-up?
